POSTGRADUATE STUDIES AT THE MILITARY ACADEMY (PART ONE)

The following applies to serving Full-time officers of the SANDF and PSA Personnel of the DoD in the following categories:

  • Current undergraduate students at the Military Academy

  • Ex-Military Academy graduates.

  • Reserve Force members.

  • SANDF Officers with appropriate tertiary qualifications from any civilian university.

  • PSA Personnel with appropriate tertiary qualifications from any civilian university.

Candidates must apply by formal letter to his/her Officer Commanding or Supervisor. The request must contain the following information:

  • The intended direction of postgraduate studies.

  • The foreseen advantages for and applicability of such studies in the candidate’s career development.

  • The eventual direction of academic specialisation and applicability to the SANDF (if known or decided upon).

The letter must be accompanied by a duly completed form Appendix A to SADFPC/D/II/I and an original academic record as well as conduct sheet of previous tertiary studies. The letter must provide for remarks/recommendations by the following persons:

  • Candidate’s unit Officer Commanding or Supervisor.

  • Programme Co-ordinator (Faculty of Military Science).

  • Dean Faculty of Military Science.

  • Commandant Military Academy.

Upon receipt of the applications, the Faculty Officer will circulate them in turn to the above persons. The Office of the Commandant Military Academy will then forward the applications, with a suitable recommendation to the Career Management Authorities of the different Services.

The different Services will respond to the applications and will communicate the decisions and outcomes to the candidates. Successful candidates will then be provided with official application forms from the University of Stellenbosch. The closing date for postgraduate applications is 29 August 2003.

B MIL HONS PROGRAMME

General Prerequisites: An appropriate B Mil or other comparable B-degree. A final mark of 60% in the prescribed major subjects. Note: Residential studies are reserved for single students only.

Organisational and Resource Management

Focus. Theoretical aspects of organisational and resource management applied to the needs of the DoD.
