TAKE NOTE

SANDF 10 KM ROAD RACE

The Pretoria Military Marathon Club hosted and sponsored the SANDF 10-km Road Race on 13 September 2003 at Thaba Tshwane in Pretoria. The competition was also open to civilian members. The race was of a high standard and the Athletics Gauteng North (AGN) have decided to utilize the event as their yearly 10 km championship.

A total of 740 runners took part in this event, of which 150 were Defence Force runners. The Chairperson of Athletics SANDF, Brig Gen B. Links, and the Chairperson of the SANDF Road Running Commision, Lt Col Chris Steyn, presented medals to the athletes at a special function held after the race. The medals had the new SANDF emblem on.

SANDF CISM ESALO MARATHON CHAMPIONSHIPS IN BLOEMFONTEIN

The SANDF will present an International Military Marathon Championship in Bloemfontein to promote the sport in the African context and to foster goodwill amongst the participating nations. The event will be held in Bloemfontein from 22 to 27 October 2003.

Chief Director Corporate Communication, Maj Gen D.M. Mofokeng, will open the event with a ceremony at the School of Armour parade ground.

The main functionary, the Chief of Missions and the parade commander are to wear their uniforms during the opening parade, whilst all athletes are to wear their tracksuits.
