The Deputy Minister, Ms Nozizwe Madlala-Routledge, is to lead
discussions on The Role and Responsibility of South African Women in the
Furtherance of the AU-NEPAD Peace and Security Agenda in the African Continent
and Internationally. The Department of Defence will host this third annual
African Women’s Peace Table on Tuesday 28 October 2003, at Pierre van Reyneveldt
Hall, Air Command Building, Dequar Road, Pretoria.
Over 200 women from Southern Africa will participate in the
seminar. They include women in defence and security forces and key civil society
organisations operating on behalf of peace and security in Southern Africa.
The forthcoming seminar will focus on the role and
responsibility of South African women in furtherance of the AU-NEPAD Peace and
Security Agenda in the African continent and beyond. This theme is reflective of
Africa’s current commitment to create a peaceful and secure environment, viewed
as a prerequisite for the regeneration and sustained growth of the continent.
The need and urgency for the effective participation of women in issues relating
to defence and security sectors across the continent cannot be emphasised
enough. Today, the worlds is witnessing and increase in the number of women
working in defence and security sectors, some at highly specialised levels.
Involvement in an that has traditionally been defined as a preserve of men calls
for an agenda that is sensitive to emerging gender configuration, and women are
well-placed to drive such an agenda. This seminar provides an opportunity to
initiate such a process and to spur the spirit embodied in the Peace Round Table
seminar series.

HOME OWNER ALLOWANCE SCHEME ADJUSTMENT
The allowance has been reduced from R709.00 to R621.00 wef 1
October 2003. As it is too late to effect these changes on the October salary
advice, this decrease will be reflected on the November 2003 salary advice
resulting in a backdated deduction.
As the Home Owner Allowance is fully taxable, the lessened
amount also means a reduction in a member taxable income.
