INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PRETORIA MILITARY CHESS CLUB’S (PMCC) CHAMPIONSHIPS

Members of the DOD are cordially invited to participate in the PMCC’S INDIVIDUAL CLOSED CHESS CHAMPION-SHIPS that will be held in the Vasbyt conference room at GSB Dequar Road, Pretoria on 18 August 2004, from 12:00 to 16:00.

The following points are to be noted:

·        Participants should register at PMCC before entering for the competition.

·        The PMCC Ranking List or written proof of the player’s national grading will act as the basis for the draw during the tournament

·        The FIDE (Fédération Internationale des échec) Laws of Chess will be applied in a Swiss tournament.

·        Participants are to be punctual to avoid disappointment, as no late entries will be accepted.

As this is an afternoon competition, teams must arrange their own transport, accommodation and refreshments.  No S&T (IAE/DSA) may be claimed.

Participating teams are requested to bring their own equipment (chess sets, chessboards, clocks and writing utensils).

The host will be the Pretoria Military Chess Club (PMCC).

POSSIBLE FRAUD/ CORRUPTION AT GSB OUDTSHOORN

In recent years allegations have been made in the press and media that military personnel who stay in the GSB Oudtshoorn military houses/quarters rent those houses/ quarters to visitors to the Klein Karoo National Arts Festival.  It has also been alleged that military personnel who stay in the mess rent out rooms and sell food to these visitors.

The IG, DOD (Directorate Anti-fraud) investigated these allegations.  The investigation team could find no concrete evidence to substantiate the allegations.
