INCREASE OF MEDICAL CONTINUATION FUND FOR
REGULAR FORCE MEMBERS
INCREASE OF CONTRIBUTIONS
The Management Board announces an increase to
the monthly contributions to normalise the
funding levels of the Regular Force Medical
Continuation Fund (RFMCF). The increase will be
phased in and will continue until an actuary
advises the board that the target funding levels
have been reached.
The first increase of 50% that was to be
implemented on 1stJuly 2004 and the first six
monthly increase of 15% that was supposed to
have been implemented as far back as 1stJanuary
2005 could only be implemented effectively from
1 January 2006. This will necessitate increases
of 15% every six months until the Regular Force
Medical Continuation Fund (RFMCF) and Management
Board introduces new rates in the near future.
REPAYMENT OF CONTRIBUTIONS
The General Regulations on medical matters
provides for the Regular Force Medical
Continuation Fund (RFMCF) to repay contributions
to members who does not use the benefits of the
RFMCF.
The following reasons apply for repayment to
members:
- When a serving member exits the SANDF
and did not contribute for a period of 10
years.
- When a serving member exits the SANDF
and contributed for a period of 10 years,
but chooses not to become a beneficiary or
does not qualify to become.
- When a serving member dies and his/her
dependants do not wish to become
beneficiaries of the RFMCF, the value of the
contributions is paid to the estate of the
late member.
- When both serving spouses contribute
towards the RFMCF and then, on termination
of service of both spouses, one of the
spouses chooses to become a dependant of the
other spouse.
The relevant forms to be completed for this
purpose are available as part of the Termination
of Service Booklet distributed by the HR Support
Centre.
