JOINT SUPPORT CLOSES DOWN OFFICE
On 31 March 2006 the DOD Work Group finally
closed down the Joint Support Division. This
closedown is in line with the processes
undertaken by the DOD to enhance civil control
and improve command and control configuration
within the DOD. The DODW addressed the issue of
closure of the Joint Support Division
repositioning, and of responsibility, authority,
and accountability in relations with its various
subdivisions within the DOD.
Thus the closing down of the Joint Support
Office has resulted in a shift in the
responsibility, authority, and accountability
dimensions regarding the Chief of the SANDF and
the Chief Human Resources, respectively.
The Chiefs of Command, Management and
Information Systems, Logistics and Military
Police Agency shall fall under the full command
of the Chief of the SA National Defence Force,
even while under the delegated administrative
control of the Chief of Corporate Staff.
Delegations of the Secretary for Defence must be
specified separately and accurately.
The Chief of HR Support Centre, Joint
Training, the Service Corps Divisions, the Chief
Director Human Resources Policy and Planning, as
well as the Chief Director Equal Opportunities,
will fall under the full command of Chief Human
Resources.
The Joint Support Office must conclude its
processes and ensure that all resources and
assets used to operate this function are
transferred to Chief Human Resources. The
positioning, migration, and utilisation of the
duties and posts within the Joint Support Office
will be dependent on the outcome and approval of
the IPT HR plus work group, and will be left to
the discretion of CHR.
