28 JULY 2006 IS THE DEFENCE ENTERPRISE INFORMATION SYSTEM INDUSTRY DAY

Mr January Masilela, the Secretary for Defence, and Director General of the Department for Defence will open the Defence Enterprise Information System Industry Day, Friday 28 July 2006.
All role players and stakeholders of the DOD will be celebrating Defence Enterprise Information System Industry Day.

Mr Masilela will be delivering a message to all the stakeholders of the Department of Defence is that the primary objective of the defence force is “to defend and protect the Republic, its territorial integrity and its people in accordance with the Constitution and the principles of international law regulating the use of force”.

Mr Masilela will emphasise the mandate of the Department of Defence as drawn from the Constitution of RSA and further expanded upon in the Defence Act and other legislation forming the regulatory framework for defence existence.

He will provide the Department of Defence with the necessary guidance on aligning itself and collaborating with all sectors of society and speak on ways of reaching all sectors of society both at international and local level.

Mr Masilela will announce his undertaking to ensure that the appropriate degree of transparency is practiced to establish a sound basis for collaboration.

He will also call on the DOD and the Defence Enterprise Information Systems Industry to ensure that the next step in the right direction is taken.

Furthermore, Mr Masilela, will explain the intention of Government and call upon the DOD to serve as an example of good governance by focusing on its core business, namely that of ensuring the successful execution of military operations by the SANDF.

He will also announce that the Director General of the Department of Defence will look into ways of establishing an information culture in the DOD that is based on decision-making superiority and the sustenance of a Defence Enterprise Information System that can make the best use of collaboration between all role-players and stakeholders.

Finally, Mr Masilela will instruct the DOD to support the national initiative such as ASGI-SA and also urge all role-layers to pursue the continuous improvement of performance and compliance within the defence function through strategic partnerships and the appropriate utilisation of Information Communication Technology (ICT).
