30 October 2007: No 61/07

IMPLEMENTATION OF NAME BADGES FOR ALL PSAP EMPLOYED IN THE DOD

In 2004, Cabinet (Cabinet memorandum 40A of July 2004) adopted a detailed revitalisation programme wrt the implementation of Batho Pele principles in the public service. It demands, amongst others, that public servants wear name badges during the course of duty.

Flowing from this memorandum, the Department initiated a project to procure name badges for all PSAP, employed in the DOD. The project was led by CD HR SD & P (Directorate HR Governance Risk Management & Compliance).

The Department formally announces that the name badges have been printed and packed according to Force Structure Elements

(FSEs) in all the different provinces.

In terms of the DOD policy on the Implementation of Batho Pele principles, all PSAP employees are obliged to wear name badges on the left, above the breast pocket.

The Department of Defence will supply one name badge per employee with state funds. Any employee who has lost or damaged his/her name badge will be financially responsible for the replacement.

Employees with medical conditions that forbid wearing of name badges with magnetic fitting, and employees who were not part of the initial list, will have to provide the necessary information to their Officers Commanding/Managers.

It is the responsibility of the relevant FSE to budget for these name badges and purchase them. The same principle will apply to instances where new employees are appointed in the DOD.

Once again as part of the revitalization programme of the DOD implementation of Batho Pele principles, Services and Divisions are urged to ensure that all PSAP employees within their FSEs wear their name badges during the course of their duties.

All enquiries regarding the wearing and processing of PSAP name badges may be forwarded to CD HR SD & P (D HR GRC) Ms Buyiswa Nkunjana, Tel: (012) 355-5468 or Col Sammy Mosiane, tel: (012) 355-5489
