APPOINTMENTS AND PROMOTION OF SA ARMY CHIEF DIRECTOR FORCE PREPARATION AND DIRECTOR HUMAN RESOURCES MAINTENANCE

The Minister of Defence (MOD), the Honourable Mosiuoa Lekota and the Chief of the South African National Defence Force, General Godfrey Nhlanhla Ngwenya, are pleased to announce the appointments and promotion of the following senior officers:

CHIEF DIRECTOR FORCE PREPARATION

The new Chief Director Force Preparation (SA Army Office) is Brig Gen V.R. Masondo, MMM, and promoted to the substantive rank of Maj Gen with effect from 1 Dec 2007.

Brigadier General Masondo was born in Umtata in the then Transkei on 21 December 1957. He left South Africa to join Umkhonto we Sizwe, in 1976 where he served in various capacities until his return to South Africa in 1992 and integrated into the SANDF in 1994.

On 01 May 2004 Brigadier General Masondo was appointed as Director Corporate Communication and promoted to the substantive rank of Brigadier General. He served in this post for one month and on 1 June 2005 was appointed as the Personal Staff Officer to the then Chief of the SANDF, General S. Nyanda. On 01 March 2006 he was appointed Director Human Resources Maintenance.

He holds a Certificate in Defence Management from Wits University, a Certificate in Labour Relations from Pretoria University and a B Com degree. He is currently studying towards a B Com Honours degree.

Brigadier General Masondo is married and is blessed with three children.

DIRECTOR HUMAN RESOURCES MAINTENANCE

Col S.E. Zulu, MMM, succeeds Brig Gen V.R. Masondo as Director Human Resources Maintenance and is promoted to the substantive rank of Brig Gen with effect from 1 December 2007.

Col Sipho E. Zulu joined Umkhonto weSizwe (MK) in 1976 and did basic military training in Angola in 1977. He was appointed in different positions while serving in Angola. Col Zulu was a Camp Commissar in Quibaxe and Funda. He was later sent to the USSR and the Democratic Republic of Germany for further military training.

Col Zulu integrated in the SANDF in 1994 and served in the following appointments: SO1 Sport 1994, SSO Labour Relations 2000, Defence Adviser in Nigeria in 2003, and currently he is the SSO Parliament Matters.

He completed his BA (Administration) at the University of Lesotho, Roma in 1976 and Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in 2000 at the University of De Montford, UK.

Col Zulu is married and blessed with four kids.
