KAHENG PROJECT (DRIVERS TRAINING)
The DOD, through Project Ikaheng offers an
opportunity to all serving members who wish to
voluntarily exit the department to be trained as
Code EC Drivers and to be redeployed in the
private sector.
The project will focus on allowing members of
all Services and Divisions to apply for training
and placement at one of Ikaheng HR Services'
clients. Two of the major clients are Unitrans
which is responsible for providing Code EC (Code
14) drivers for the Gautrain Project and
Imperial Holdings, which is the holding company
for a number of other transport companies.
This is a voluntary project and
members/employees who want to participate in
this initiative will exit from the DOD bmo the
Mobility Exit Mechanism/Employee Initiated
Severance Package and the benefits linked to the
respective packages.
CRITERIA
Members who are interested in undergoing the
Code EC Driver's License Training with the
intention of exiting voluntarily from the DOD
can download the application form from the D HR
Separation Website. Members who comply with the
following criteria can apply for this training:
- Members with good medical
health.
- Only Serving Regular Force
Members/Public Service Employees.
- Preferably Grade 12, but
at least ABET level 3 in communication.
- Members must have no
criminal records and, if such records exist,
members must provide letters of pardon
before they can be considered. Members must
also not be involved in current criminal
cases that may lead to conviction and a
criminal record.
- Members must be older than
twenty-one years but not older than forty
years of age. Despite the minimum age
specified, the rejuvenation of the SANDF's
HR component will receive preference when
candidates are selected for driver training.
- Both male and female
members will be considered. There is a
requirement at Unitrans to appoint at least
one hundred female drivers.
FACTORS OF IMPORTANCE
Successful members are guaranteed employment
in the private sector. Unsuccessful candidates
will return to their units.
The Gautrain Project is in the Gauteng
Province (Johannesburg, Midrand, and Hatfield)
and it is preferable that members for this
project should be from this area as the new
employer does not provide accommodation. Members
must have their own accommodation and means to
travel to and from work.
Although the Imperial Holdings training takes
place in the Western Cape, the receiving
companies are not only situated in Cape Town.
Companies are based all over the country and
members will have to negotiate and accept
placement wherever a vacancy exists.
As private companies are contributing towards
the training, the individual will have to enter
into a contract with the new employer for at
least a year. Members will therefore not be
allowed to use the training that is provided as
a stepping stone to exit the DOD and to find his
or her own employment or to remain in the
service of the SANDF/DOD.
This initiative is an open-ended project
which means that interested candidates can apply
at any time. A database will be compiled and
members will be allowed to undergo training in
accordance with criteria and the availability of
vacancies. Applications must be submitted
directly to Directorate HR Sepa-ration as
follows:
- Postal Address: Director
HR Separation Private Bag X976 Pretoria 0001
- Hand delivery: Directorate
HR Separation Poyntons Building Room 27.39
Co Church and Bosman Street
- Fax number: (012) 392-3132
or (012) 392-3115 for paper selection.
A final list of candidates will be provided
to the respective career managers for
ratification. Kindly note that no member will be
allowed to attend a course without the approval
of the relevant career manager.
