MILITARY TRADE UNION ADMINISTRATION IN THE DOD: REVOCATION OF MILITARY TRADE UNION MEMBERSHIP AUTHORITY 

The Department of Defence and Military Veterans, Directorate Collective Mechanisms is still flooded with queries and complaints from members with regards to their revocation of military trade union membership, as provided for in Regulation 30 of Chapter XX of the General Regulations for the SANDF and Reserve.

The Directorate advise that the procedures for revocation of military trade unions is provided for in Regulation 30 read with Regulation 31 of Chapter XX of the General Regulations for the SANDF and Reserve. According to the said provision a member may revoke an authorisation contemplated in regulation 28 by giving the employer and the registered military trade union three months’ written notice.” The employer shall, upon receipt of a notice contemplated in regulation 30, continue to make the authorised deduction until the notice period has expired and shall then cease the deduction.”

It is advised that those members who wish to revoke their membership with military trade unions must complete a similar form and or write a letter similar to the following form; Revocation of authorisation of military trade union membership in terms of Regulation 30 of Chapter XX of the General Regulations for the SANDF and Reserve.

I, the above named and undersigned hereby revoke my authorisation from………….. (Name of the union) with immediate effect and or as provided for in Regulation 30 read with Regulation 31 of Chapter XX of the General Regulations for the SANDF and Reserve.

I hereby authorise and instruct the Accounting Officer of the Department of Defence to cease the deduction after the notice period contemplated in Regulation 30 has expired.

It must be noted that it is the members responsibility to give the Department of Defence and the registered military trade union three months’ written notice before the DOD could cease to deduct membership fees in terms of Regulation 31 of Chapter XX of the General Regulation for the SANDF and Reserve.

Revocation authority must be forwarded to both the affected registered military trade union and the employer Directorate Collective Mechanisms Private Bag X910 Pretoria 0001 Fax (012) 355-5524. The Officers Command-ing are to ensure that this information is com-municated to all membe-rs and published in their units daily orders.
